Conrad J Heilman Jr., Ph.D.
President and CEO
Conrad has over 20 years' experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and has extensive knowledge in research, development, manufacturing, and quality/compliance. He has managed numerous large projects for respected international firms, has achieved superior outcomes in challenging, time-sensitive compliance situations, and has helped clients meet operational, regulatory, legislative, and competitive demands. Conrad was President of Viromed Biosafety Laboratories in NJ, Vice President of Research for Pro-Virus in MD, and a Director of Applied Biotechnology at DuPont Merck Pharmaceuticals.
Joseph A Hare
Chief Financial Officer
With more than 20 years' experience in business financial operations, strategic planning, marketing, and the management of information systems, Joe guides the day-to-day administrative and financial operations of Tunnell Consulting, and serves as a member of the firm's Operating Committee and an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors, helping the organization craft sound business solutions that serve both our future and the well-being of our client companies. Joe is also a trustee of the Tunnell Consulting ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan), with responsibility for plan administration and investment decisions. As an ESOP company, Tunnell employees are company owners who have a personal interest in the success of the firm; Joe's work helps keep the firm secure. Other key responsibilities include: executive management compensation, physical facility management, and internal administrative information systems.
Mark R Schroeder
Senior Vice President, Government Services Group
As head of Tunnell’s Government Services business, Mark uses his 20 years of large-scale organizational change experience to help government agencies develop transformational approaches that successfully achieve their expressed missions. Skilled at creating powerful business strategies and aligning organizations to deliver productivity, efficiency and quality, and adept at implementing leading-edge technologies that promote growth and widespread HR change, Mark is ideally suited to help agencies manage complex issues in critical areas such as Human Capital Management and Workforce Planning. Mark has been a Practice Leader for Accelerated Corporate Transformation at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Director of Organizational Effectiveness at Eli Lilly Company, Practice Leader for Organizational Capability Architecture and Assessment at Amoco Corp., and is fully versed in a broad spectrum of change strategies including Accelerated Corporate Transformation (ACT), organizational redesign, mergers and acquisitions, process reengineering, and performance measurement. Mark has also taught organizational and leadership development at three major universities: Northwestern University, University of Iowa, and Mercer University.
Joseph J Villafranca Ph.D.
Senior Vice President, SOU Head, Life Sciences
With more than 30 years’ experience in all phases of the development of therapeutically important drugs, and extensive experience in both industry and academia, Joe is head of Tunnell’s Life Sciences Practice, using his well-respected knowledge to help our clients most effectively integrate business and science. Joe’s areas of expertise include Drug Discovery, Drug Development, Strategic Planning, Executive Coaching, Project Management, Global Strategic Alliances, and Manufacturing Operations. He has also served as the Evan Pugh Professor of Chemistry at Penn State University, where he held a number of academic positions for over 20 years. Joe has been the President of Biopharmaceutical Consultants LLC, the Executive Vice President of Pharmaceutical Development & Operations for Neose Technologies, Inc., and has held numerous vice presidential positions at Bristol-Myers Squibb, including Vice President of Biologics Strategy and Biopharmaceutical Operations.
Maria V Butz
Vice President / Human Resources
With extensive experience in both human resources and healthcare consulting, Maria Butz combines her skills and knowledge to direct Tunnell's human resources capabilities, emphasizing consultant competencies that deliver the utmost sensitivity to client needs. As a member of our Operating Committee, she is also engaged in strategic business development as Tunnell continues to execute its program of deliberate growth. Maria has served as Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Life Bridge Health, where she developed and implemented a corporate human resources organization that supported the healthcare system strategically and operationally. She has also served as Corporate Vice President for Human Resources at Catholic Health East, developing and executing strategies, policies, and programs that successfully merged three healthcare systems. She has held a variety of human resources positions at PSE&G Enterprise Group, Penn Mutual Insurance, Educational Testing Service, and Fidelcor. She is also an experienced executive coach.
William Bolding
Vice President, Operations
With more than 30 years of experience in life sciences and related industries, Bill has led successful turnarounds in pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical environments. He has implemented and led global Lean Six Sigma projects at the executive, functional, and operation levels, and he is adept at aligning organizational cultures with strategic objectives. Prior to joining Tunnell, he was Senior Vice President of Global Operational Excellence at Catalent Pharma Solutions, a former division of Cardinal Health spun off to the Blackstone Group. As Senior Vice President, Global Operational Excellence at Cardinal, he collaborated with the senior leadership team to position the division for divestiture. As Vice President Operations at Oral Technologies, he led the operations of three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. In addition, he has extensive experience in pharmaceutical packaging operations, including a variety of positions with Smurfit Stone Container Corporation. Skilled in developing and leading talented, accountable, and results-driven teams, he brings to all of his work a customer and value-oriented perspective.
